On February 16 Daniel Oberreuter (the lead singer of The Thirsting) offered a solo acoustic concert in the Chapel of St. Thomas More Newman Center. As told on The Thirsting website: "These concerts are called "Come Hold my Son" concerts. Inspired by the song 'Come Hold my Son' by Daniel Oberreuter, these acoustic concerts take listeners on a journey through the mysteries of the Rosary." The amazing selection of music and the intertwined calls to holiness touched the hearts of the many who were present, from little babes in arms to much more mature individuals, although much of the music is aimed at the young adult group.
The concert was only part of the offering experienced here, for Daniel arrived at the Newman Center on the previous Saturday and stayed with the Dominican Friars until he briefly went home on Monday morning. Over the weekend he helped with music at all the weekend liturgies making a strong impression on the gathered community. As is true with all visiting productions, whether musical or not, there were always CDs and other items related to Daniel's music ministry. Some consider the number of sales to be the "Neilson Rating" of any group or individual. By that measure Daniel and his "Come Hold My Son" concert was a smash success!
Please do consider visiting The Thirsting website and decide for yourself, but Daniel, and maybe even the entire band, would be welcome again in the future.- Fr. Vincent Benoit, OP
