In 2022, a documentary film crew from the Dominican Friars began chronicling the work of missionary priests, religious, and lay people in Alaska as they minister to some of the most remote Catholic communities in the world. The film offers a beautiful, authentic, and inspiring look inside the Catholic Church in the state, including rare access to some pivotal moments.
We’re very excited to announce that the film is complete and will soon be shown at premieres along the West Coast and in Rome. Happily, Bishop Steven Maekawa, Dominican friar and Bishop of Fairbanks, will attend each premiere.
About the Film: In production for over two years, Mission Alaska: To the Ends of the Earth chronicles the incredible efforts of priests, religious, and laity as they brave the elements, a lack of roads, and a serious shortage of priests to keep the light of faith alive in Alaska. At its heart is the Eucharist and the conviction that no community is too remote, and no person too far away, to be remembered. Mission Alaska is a cinematic exploration of faith, sacrifice, and what it means to answer the call to serve. With stunning visuals, fascinating stories, and surprises along the way, Mission Alaska will take you on an adventure through the Last Frontier.
