WELCOME TO ST. THOMAS MORE
St. Thomas More Newman Center is dedicated to serving the academic community of the University of Oregon and Lane Community College. We are a Catholic community committed to bringing Christ on campus. We strive to live out this mission through the Dominican intellectual and spiritual tradition. If you are brand new, walking into the Newman Center for the first time, you might notice that it has a unique structure. The architect intended it to represent Noah's Ark. The top part of the building is the Chapel. Below the Chapel you will find the Newman Center meeting area/gathering spaces and offices.
WORSHIP
We believe that the Eucharist is the source and summit of our lives and that Christ forms us into His Body through the grace of the sacraments. Come to be nourished in the Word and Sacrament. Come prepared to learn from our Dominicans whose motto is to preach the truth of Jesus Christ. The homilies are relevant, practical, and dynamic. Expect to feel welcomed by a loving community and experience amazing worship music!
NEWMAN CENTER
We believe in the importance of both a personal relationship with God expressed in prayer and a moral life, and a communal relationship with others manifested in community and friendship. That is why we have a center just for college students! The Center is "a home away from home" for the students, a place where students can hang out with other students to pray, to study, and to serve in love and friendship. Feel free to visit us and look around the center. Welcome to your new home away from home!
Our priests, staff, and peer ministers are around to answer questions about events at Newman, and connect you with others. It's easy to feel alone in the crowd and overwhelmed when you are new. We encourage you to get involved by:
1. Checking out our Mass times, go to Sunday Mass, and then stop by the Center to pick up your UO Rosary and Newman water bottle!
2. Consider signing up for a small group at the beginning of each quarter. This will give you the chance to meet other students, form friendships, and learn about the many activities you might be interested in joining.
If you would like to become a member of St. Thomas More, simply call the parish office or register online!
