OUR MISSION

We are a Catholic ministry whose mission is to welcome and serve Eugene university students to help them become future Church and world leaders rooted in prayer, faith, liturgy, and life in Christ.

OUR NEWMAN HISTORY

"CAMPUS MINISTRY IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE CHURCH'S MISSION TO THE WORLD AND MUST BE SEEN IN THAT LIGHT."
Saint John Henry Newman was originally ordained in the Church of England. He led the Oxford movement, an effort to reform the Church of England. During this time, Newman became convinced that the Catholic Church was the one true Church, and he converted in 1845. He became a Catholic priest in 1847 and a cardinal in 1879, and officially became a saint in 2019. He spent much of his life as an active theologian advocating for college students.
Three years after Newman's death, a group of Catholic students at the University of Pennsylvania were inspired by Newman. They began the "Newman Movement", with the goal of helping Catholic students live their faith. During this time, the Catholic Church began to place an emphasis on campus ministry, and Newman Centers for Catholic college students were founded across the United States.
Today, there are over 800 Catholic Newman Centers at secular universities in the world, including St. Thomas More. These centers provide services to all, and especially (but not limited) to Roman Catholic college students.
